Apocalyptic Nostalgia

Apocalyptic Nostalgia is a phrase that artist Jonathon Engelien uses to describe the human experience of change. He sees it as our experience of longing and pain, fear and relief, despair and hope in the face of changing environments and our own lives. Though his core collection is watercolor landscapes, he has always drawn inspiration from a range of sources, including early human cave paintings, landscape frescos from antiquity, Japanese woodblock printmaking, and our contemporary exploration of the realities of climate change. He is eager to continue the conversation of our human place in the world, both with each other and with our environment.
